ST. LOUIS — Pavement buckled Tuesday on Leonor K. Sullivan Boulevard amid the fourth straight day of 95 degrees-and-above temperatures in the St. Louis area.
The buckled area was in front of the north end of the Gateway Arch. A photo of the area began appearing on social media late Tuesday afternoon.
The city's interim streets director, Jim Suelmann, said Tuesday night he had been unaware of the issue and that his department would check it out.
The National Weather Service said Tuesday's official high temperature was 95 degrees at 2:28 p.m. The heat index reached 102.
Temperatures hit 96 on Monday, Sunday and Saturday, with heat indices ranging as high as 107 on Saturday.
